I arose today to the sound of the wintery wind blowing. Soon after, snow flurries started their on again, off again routine. It seemed as though this would be a great day to stay inside, watch some futbol, and take care of some chores.
I went through some of my boxes of old stuff, and realized that I really didn’t need most of what was included. I smiled at some of what I found. I hung a photo or two on my long yearning walls. Heck, I even threw some stuff in the laundry, made some pork loin in the crock pot, and then decided to look outside again.
That’s when it happened.
We have been under siege from Mother Nature for the last few days and it’s been pretty dreary around here. When I stopped for a moment and looked out the window, I saw light. Really cool light. And birds. Hundreds of them seemingly were attacking the berries that were still left of the Mountain Ash in my front yard.
Here are some images I made during the short time that the warm light fell into my yard…

Just another reason to always be paying attention to what is going on, no matter how busy you think you are.
My buddy Ryan came over to visit this weekend. We fished, we laughed, we had a great time!

I am both proud and honored to be the featured artist in the local arts & entertainment magazine Cascades A&E. It is an issue devoted to local photographers, and I am amazed at the company that I am privileged to be involved with. There are so many great artists in the area!
The article reveals a little bit of information about me and my life, but mostly I wanted to try and get all of you to stop, take a moment, look around, and see. See what others may not, see those things that you drive by every day, see interesting things in your maybe not so interesting daily view. Appreciate what is around you. Make an image with your high-end camera, your point-and-shoot, or even your phone.
Just take a moment out of your busy life and see.
If any of you would like to share something that you have seen lately, please feel free to let us see as well.
If you are in the Bend area, you can pick up a copy of Cascade A&E at many local establishments. If not, you can download a PDF version (with low-res images) Here:

Pick up a fresh hard copy Friday December 30th and always remember to support your local artists!
I crawled out of bed early on the very chilly Saturday morning with my sights set on making some images of the lunar eclipse that had already begun. The timing for this event was going to be perfect. Blue skies above, and the total eclipse coincided nicely with sunrise. I knew the light was going to be good.
Did I say “chilly”? The thermometer was hovering around the 20 degree mark…
The view when I left the house.

I knew that I would not be alone when I reached the location I had picked out. When I arrived, there where already two other photogs set up.

A close-up view of the spectacular display.

By this time I was having problems working the camera due to my fingers feeling like frozen hot dogs. As I headed back to the car to try and warm up a little, I noticed about 8 other photographers all shooting the scene.
Here is my favorite from the morning.

I was so cold that I decided it was time to head home. Shortly after leaving the scene, I noticed this in my rearview mirror and just had to stop and capture the last moment before the moon set over Mt. Washington.

It’s going to be more than a year until the next opportunity for a morning like this. Maybe I’ll have feeling back in my fingers by then!
