It Might Be Old and Outdated…
But the new place has character. And good light. I like that.

Now I just need to get some stuff up on the walls…

Moving. It generally sucks, but I’ve got to say “Wow”. What an experience.
I’ve recently moved out of my apartment and into a house in a really cool neighborhood. What makes it really cool is that my neighbors actually made a point to stop by and introduce themselves. Roger even commented on my West Yellowstone Fly Shop ball cap. Yep, he’s a fly fisherman too. Cool. This may not sound like a big deal to most of you, but it is to me. My apartment neighbors were not nearly as friendly. Roger’s wife Connie even gave my son and I a really cool cruiser bicycle as a welcome gift! It’s the perfect tool for grocery shopping at the local market, just need to get a basket or rack installed…

Now, my yard is another story. It’s almost sorta kinda green, but is seriously lacking in the plant/flower department. I’ve got to make some changes. Would any of you be interested in helping an amateur get some color in his yard? I’ll buy the pizza.
I spent most of the last week moving. Yuck. The new house is much bigger than where I have spent the last few years. It needs some serious garden work and while busily moving box after box I continually noticed the lack of any flowers. I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty around here as soon as I get settled in.
Eventually I decided to take a break from all the work and checked out some of my favorite blogs. Luckily, I ended up at Gardening Gone Wild and was presented with a much needed task to help quiet my busy mind. The August Picture This Photo Contest had challenged readers to make a photo of your garden “from your knees”.
“The point of this contest is to encourage you to look and see from less expected perspectives, to do more than bulls-eye your photographic subjects while standing safely at the edge of things. I want to see pictures that take me into the depths of a garden, that record the play of light and shadow while looking upward, or straight across.”
What a great idea! Oh, and did I mention that my good friend David Perry is the judge? I’ve got to get in on this! (plus I could really use some late summer blooming perennials)
So, with splinters in my knees and an image from what I saw as I slowed down and looked, here is my submission. I’m not even sure what this flower is (it’s about the size of a nickel), or what type of visitor it has.

Be sure to stop by Gardening Gone Wild and see all of the great images! (and maybe submit one of your own)
My 13yr old son Braden has been spending some time behind the camera lately and we thought it would be cool to set up a web gallery to share his images with others.

(As his dad, this makes me all giddy inside!)
